This is an excellant experience for anyone who wants to gain a deeper
understanding of the Hawaiian culture. Learn to Pound poi, the Hawaiian
food staple and see traditional weapons and understand the nature of Hawaiian
warfare. You can also learn the fundamentals of the ancient art form,
Hula. Each week there is a different cultural pracitioner that you may
ask questions or just sit down and talk story with. Also included is an
amazing Hawaiian style breakfast buffet created by Executive chef Lyndon
Honda; Island sweet bread stuffed french toast, Kalua pork Hash, haupia
(coconut) oatmeal and island fresh scrambled eggs are just a few of your
choices.
Join us at Moali'i, the oceanfront home of the Old Lahaina Luau, for a
special morning celebrating the rich host culture of the Hawaiian Islands.
Following a lavish breakfast buffet, experience a glimpse into the history
and traditions of the Kanaka Maoli or Native Hawaiian - a "hands"
on encounter with the ingenuity and resourcefulness of the ancient culture
that once thrived on these isolated islands.
Your experience begins in the sparkling morning light along the shores
of historic Lahaina with "Aina Kakahiaka", our Hawaiian style
breakfast. Afterwards, join us for our inter-active cultural encounter
or kulana. Each kulana will give you the opportunity to gain a deeper
understanding of some of the important components of Hawaiian culture.
Alupua'a
- traditional land divisions which allowed Hawaiians to use everything
from the mountains to the sea. Pound poi - the Hawaiian food staple, and
learn the traditional "throw net" style of fishing.
Hula - learn about traditional Hula implements and the
fundamentals of this ancient art form which epitomizes Hawaiian culture.
Warfare - Hawaiian battles were very calculated affairs.
See traditional weapons, understand the nature of Hawaiian warfare and
learn the art of spear throwing.
Talk Story - Each week we invite cultural practitioners
to join us - their expertise may range from weaving or lei making to playing
ukulele. Stop by with your questions of just for a chat with our special
guests.
